How Hong Kong Taxi Fares Work
Metered taxis follow an official, government-set formula — useful to understand even if you book a fixed-price ride with us.
The basic formula (red / urban taxis)
Flag-fall: HK$29
The meter starts at HK$29 the moment you get in, covering the first 2km.
Then HK$2.1 per 200m
After the first 2km, the fare increases by HK$2.1 for roughly every 200m (or minute of waiting in traffic).
"Long, less" above HK$102.5
Once the fare passes HK$102.5, the per-unit rate drops to HK$1.4 — so longer trips add up more slowly per kilometer.
Extras on top
Tunnel tolls (charged at cost), a small luggage fee per large item, and sometimes a phone-booking fee are added separately at the end.
