Route 8 — Tsing Sha Highway
From Sha Tin or Tai Wai to the airport, drivers usually take Route 8 (Tsing Sha Highway), via the Tai Wai, Sha Tin Heights and Eagle's Nest tunnels, then Stonecutters Bridge and the Cross Harbour Route (South) toward Tsing Yi. The three tunnels near Sha Tin on Tsing Sha Highway share a single toll group, currently a flat $8; the Cross Harbour Route (South) is toll-free.
Tsing Yi to the airport
From Tsing Yi, the route continues via the North Lantau Highway toward Chek Lap Kok. The Cheung Tsing, Kong Sham Western and Airport tunnels along the way are toll-free, and Lantau Link tolls have been waived.
No harbour tunnel between Sha Tin and the airport
Both Sha Tin and the airport sit on Victoria Harbour's northern road network, so the usual route doesn't use the Cross-Harbour Tunnel, Eastern Harbour Crossing or Western Harbour Crossing — meaning no harbour tunnel toll and no cross-harbour taxi return surcharge. The current Tsing Sha Highway toll is usually included in the fixed fare.
Routes can change with live traffic
If there's an incident or heavy congestion on Tsing Sha Highway, Stonecutters Bridge or the Tsing Yi section, the driver may reasonably reroute via the Tate's Cairn Tunnel, Tsuen Wan or another sensible path. Once a fixed fare has been confirmed, a reasonable reroute for traffic conditions generally won't increase the agreed price; a metered fare, on the other hand, is calculated from the actual distance, waiting time and tolls incurred.
