Q: What is the taxi tunnel toll? Is it seventy or eighty dollars?

No. Taxis are not charged what private cars are charged: for the Cross-Harbour, Eastern Harbour and Western Harbour tunnels, the taxi toll is currently a flat $25 per trip, all day, with no time-of-day pricing. If you did not board at a cross-harbour taxi stand, a $25 return toll applies as well, so $50 in total. Some sources quote the old private car toll for the Western Harbour Tunnel (once several tens of dollars) as if it applied to taxis; the two are very different. Our fixed fare already includes the $50. The Transport Department's published figures are what count.

Q: Does the fixed fare cover the Western Harbour Tunnel and the return toll?

Both are covered. The $25 harbour toll, the $25 return toll and luggage (statutorily $6 a piece, with no limit on pieces) are all included. And you pay the same whether the driver takes the Western, Cross-Harbour or Eastern tunnel, because the taxi toll is identical for all three ($25 per trip). The driver has no reason to detour to save on tolls, and you never pay more because the route changed.

Q: Why can't you just quote one price for Hong Kong Island?

Because the island is wide. The airport is about 37 km from Kennedy Town and about 48 km from Chai Wan — a difference of roughly 11 km. At about $7 a kilometre under the legal meter, distance alone accounts for about $77. So we quote eight separate districts. Give us the full hotel name or the district and we can quote accurately.

Q: For two people, is the Airport Express or a taxi better?

It depends on where the hotel is. The Airport Express only goes as far as Hong Kong station in Central; a single adult fare is a little over one hundred dollars (as published by the MTR), and it offers in-town check-in and free shuttle buses to selected hotels. If there are one or two of you, travelling light, and the hotel is at Hong Kong station or on a shuttle route, the Airport Express costs less. But if the hotel is in Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, North Point or Taikoo, you still need a taxi, tram or MTR ride afterwards; and with three or more people, checked bags, elderly relatives or small children, or an arrival before the railway opens, our door-to-door fixed fare is usually both cheaper and easier.

Q: Will an exhibition in Wan Chai or an event in Causeway Bay affect my trip?

Yes, noticeably. When there is a major exhibition or event at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, traffic and crowds build up around Expo Drive, Convention Avenue and Wan Chai North; during events or the Lunar New Year fair at Victoria Park, Gloucester Road and Causeway Road get congested as well. If your hotel is nearby and your trip falls on an event day, allow another 20–30 minutes and tell us when you book, and we will arrange a closer set-down point or an alternative route.

Q: Can I book for a late-night arrival? Is there a surcharge?

Yes, we run 24 hours a day all year round, and there is no night surcharge. The Airport Express and the MTR have service hours, so red-eye arrivals often cannot use the railway at all, and late at night there is even less public transport across the harbour — a taxi is then the only door-to-door option. Fixed fares on some routes are slightly higher in the morning peak (generally 05:00–08:00), and we say so clearly when we quote. See late-night airport taxi.

Q: What if my hotel is in the Mid-Levels, on The Peak or in the Southern District?

For the Mid-Levels (Kotewall Road, Bowen Road, MacDonnell Road, Kennedy Road) and The Peak (Peak Road, Plantation Road, Gough Hill Road) see airport to Victoria Peak, because the climb adds distance. For the Southern District (Aberdeen, Wong Chuk Hang, Ap Lei Chau, Deep Water Bay, Repulse Bay, Stanley) see airport to Ocean Park, which carries the district prices. Either can be booked directly.

Hong Kong Island is the only major hotel area that requires crossing the harbour — on the meter you would pay around $382, against a fixed fare of $280 to Central, a saving of roughly $100. First, one thing worth clearing up: the taxi harbour tunnel toll is $25, not seventy or eighty dollars

This misunderstanding is everywhere online, and it makes people over- or under-estimate the fare

⚠️ Taxis are not charged the same tunnel toll as private cars

For the Cross-Harbour, Eastern Harbour and Western Harbour tunnels, the taxi toll is currently a flat $25 per trip, all day, with no time-of-day pricing. If the passenger did not board at a cross-harbour taxi stand, a $25 return toll is payable as well, so $50 in total.

Some sources online quote the old private car toll for the Western Harbour Tunnel (which once ran to several tens of dollars) as though it applied to taxis. The two are very far apart. The Transport Department's published figures are what count.

Because all three harbour tunnels cost the same, it makes no difference which one your driver takes

The taxi toll is $25 for all three harbour tunnels, so a driver has no reason to take a detour to save on tolls, and you never pay more because the route changed. Our fixed fare already includes that $50 — there is no top-up demanded when you get out.

When the return toll is waived: if you board at a cross-harbour taxi stand, or if your final destination is not on the other side of the harbour, no return toll is due. Why is the gap so wide on Hong Kong Island? Three costs stack up

It is the longest trip. The airport to Central is about 40 km, roughly 6 km further than Tsim Sha Tsui (about 34 km); Chai Wan is about 48 km.
The $25 harbour tunnel toll. Hong Kong Island is the only major hotel area on the far side of the harbour.
The $25 return toll. A trip starting at the airport does not qualify for the waiver, so it is always payable.

Add those three together and you can see why the metered total reaches around $382, while our fixed fare of $280 leaves a gap of roughly $100 — noticeably more than Tsim Sha Tsui (about $60) or Kowloon ($40–$50). It is also why we lead with the fixed fare on Hong Kong Island, while on shorter routes that stay on one side of the harbour — West Kowloon, Tsing Yi, Disneyland — we quote the 15%-off meter alongside it. ※ How the meter estimate is worked out: an urban (red) taxi charges $29 for the first 2 km, then $2.1 per 200 m until the fare reaches $102.5 (at around the 9th kilometre), after which it is $1.4 per 200 m, or roughly $7 per kilometre. For 40 km: $102.5 + (40 − 9) × $7 ≈ $320. That excludes waiting-time increments — the legal tariff charges "per 200 m or per minute of waiting", so in Hong Kong Island traffic the meter climbs noticeably higher, which means the real saving is larger. Distances are approximate driving distances; fixed fares are indicative and may differ in peak hours (generally 05:00–08:00). The price quoted when you book is the one that applies. The first half of the trip — the Airport Tunnel, Nam Wan Tunnel, Lantau Link and Cheung Tsing Tunnel — is entirely free of charge. All of them appear on the Transport Department's list of government road tunnels with no toll, and the Lantau Link toll was waived in December 2020. The only stretch you actually pay for is the harbour crossing; the Central–Wan Chai Bypass is also toll-free, which helps on east–west trips along the island's north shore.

Traffic risk on Hong Kong Island: these are city streets, not motorways

The island section after the harbour is where the real variation lies. Des Voeux Road Central, Queen's Road Central, Hennessy Road and Gloucester Road carry very dense traffic at peak times, and with tram tracks, bus stops and loading bays in the mix, speeds drop sharply. It is worse again when there is a large exhibition at the HKCEC or an event at Victoria Park.

That is exactly why we use a fixed fare on Hong Kong Island. The legal tariff charges "per 200 m or per minute of waiting", so a meter keeps climbing while you sit in traffic. A fixed fare does not.

The Airport Express runs straight to Hong Kong station — when should you take the train instead?

Hong Kong Island is where the Airport Express terminates, so this comparison deserves a proper answer

The Airport Express terminates at Hong Kong station in Central. A single adult fare is a little over one hundred dollars (the MTR's published fares, frequencies and service hours are what apply), and it offers in-town check-in plus free shuttle buses to selected hotels. For a traveller staying in the heart of Central that is a genuinely strong option, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Send us your flight number and hotel. On WhatsApp, give the flight number, arrival date and time, the full hotel name and its district (for example "the such-and-such hotel in Causeway Bay, Gloucester Road"), the number of passengers and the number of bags. We work from the flight's actual landing time and track delays automatically.
You get a fixed fare for your district. We quote a firm amount for the district your hotel is in, with the $25 harbour toll, the $25 return toll and luggage all included, and we state clearly whether the airport car park fee (commonly around $16 in this trade) is part of it.

Landed too early to check in? What to do with the time on Hong Kong Island

Go to the hotel first and leave your bags. Most island hotels will hold luggage before the official check-in time (each hotel sets its own policy), so you can head out unencumbered.
Plenty within walking distance. Central (IFC, Lan Kwai Fong, Hollywood Road, Tai Kwun), Admiralty (Pacific Place, Hong Kong Park), Wan Chai (the HKCEC, Tai Yuen Street), Causeway Bay (Times Square, Victoria Park), Taikoo (Cityplaza) — all right on the doorstep.
The Peak is an easy add-on. Going up to Victoria Peak from Central is a short trip that stays on this side of the harbour, so the 15%-off meter is usually the better deal. You can also book an "airport → hotel → Peak" multi-stop trip.
Half a day in the Southern District. Ocean Park, Repulse Bay and Stanley are all on Hong Kong Island too, so there is no second harbour crossing.

Be aware, though, that Des Voeux Road Central, Queen's Road Central and some other Central streets have tram tracks, bus stops, restricted-zone hours or no-setting-down rules; the Pacific Place area and Wan Chai on exhibition days get congested too. We confirm the drop-off point when we dispatch the car; if it is blocked on the day, the driver stops at the nearest legal spot.

Yes, noticeably. When there is a major exhibition or event at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, traffic and crowds build up around Expo Drive, Convention Avenue and Wan Chai North; during events or the Lunar New Year fair at Victoria Park, Gloucester Road and Causeway Road get congested as well. If your hotel is nearby and your trip falls on an event day, allow another 20–30 minutes and tell us when you book, and we will arrange a closer set-down point or an alternative route.

Yes, we run 24 hours a day all year round, and there is no night surcharge. The Airport Express and the MTR have service hours, so red-eye arrivals often cannot use the railway at all, and late at night there is even less public transport across the harbour — a taxi is then the only door-to-door option. Fixed fares on some routes are slightly higher in the morning peak (generally 05:00–08:00), and we say so clearly when we quote. See late-night airport taxi.

For the Mid-Levels (Kotewall Road, Bowen Road, MacDonnell Road, Kennedy Road) and The Peak (Peak Road, Plantation Road, Gough Hill Road) see airport to Victoria Peak, because the climb adds distance. For the Southern District (Aberdeen, Wong Chuk Hang, Ap Lei Chau, Deep Water Bay, Repulse Bay, Stanley) see airport to Ocean Park, which carries the district prices. Either can be booked directly.

No. Give us the flight number when you book and we dispatch against the actual landing time, tracking delays for you. If the delay is a long one — several hours, say — just send a WhatsApp so we can adjust; there is no rebooking fee.

Yes. The fixed fare includes luggage, with no limit on pieces. A taxi normally carries 4–5 passengers (depending on the registered seating), so larger groups need a second car. Please mention pushchairs, pet carriers (statutorily $5 per animal), golf bags and oversized items when you book. Wheelchairs and crutches carry no surcharge by law. We accept cash, Octopus, Visa/Mastercard, PayMe, FPS and Alipay; please say which you intend to use when booking. Ask the driver if you need a receipt. Corporate clients can open a monthly account, which suits meeting clients or visitors off their flights — demand for this is highest among business travellers in Central and Admiralty. Yes. Our booking team works in 中文, 日本語 and 한국어 over WhatsApp in writing. Everything that matters — flight number, hotel name, time, price — is settled in text, and the driver simply navigates to the Chinese address we have already confirmed. It helps to give us the hotel's Chinese name and its street as well.

Statutory information follows the government's published figures. The taxi tariff took effect on 14 July 2024 (red taxi flag-fall $29, then $2.1 per 200 m or minute of waiting, $1.4 once the fare reaches $102.5; green $25.5 / $1.9 / $1.4 above $82.5; blue $24 / $1.9 / $1.6 above $195). Surcharges are $6 per piece of luggage, $5 per animal, $5 per telephone booking, and nothing for wheelchairs and crutches. The taxi toll for all three harbour tunnels (Cross-Harbour, Eastern and Western) is currently a flat $25 per trip, with no time-of-day pricing; a $25 return toll is payable where the passenger did not board at a cross-harbour taxi stand and the final destination is on the other side of the harbour. The Airport Tunnel, Nam Wan Tunnel, Cheung Tsing Tunnel and the Central–Wan Chai Bypass appear on the Transport Department's list of government road tunnels with no toll, and the Lantau Link has been toll-free since December 2020; the Tai Lam Tunnel taxi toll is $28. Private car tolls are different from taxi tolls and should not be confused. The airport car park fee is not a statutory taxi charge; around $16 is common in this trade, and we say whether it is included when we quote. Airport Express stations, journey times, fares, frequencies, in-town check-in and free shuttle routes are as published by the MTR; hotel luggage storage and check-in arrangements are set by each hotel. The meter figures on this page are estimates derived from the statutory tariff and exclude waiting-time increments; fixed fares are indicative, and the price quoted when you book is the one that applies.
