Tsing Yi is only about 13 km from the airport, a short-distance route. For short trips, the flag-fall fare makes up a large share, so meter 85% off (approx. $111) and the fixed fare ($120–$140) aren't far apart, and each has its own advantage:
- Meter 85% off — the lowest amount when traffic is smooth (e.g. early hours, early morning).
- Fixed fare — already includes luggage (two pieces alone are worth $12), no extra charge for traffic, and the amount is fixed before departure.
So for Tsing Yi trips, we'll offer both quotes simultaneously for you to choose based on the situation at the time. Unique to Tsing Yi: the Only Residential Area on the Airport Express
Being honest — for solo travel, the Airport Express may well be cheaper than us
Tsing Yi station is one of the Airport Express stations (the others being Hong Kong, Kowloon, AsiaWorld-Expo and Airport stations), with a journey of about 12 minutes from Tsing Yi to the airport, at an adult single fare of around seventy dollars (actual fare and schedule subject to MTR announcements). This makes Tsing Yi one of the residential areas with the best transport choices in Hong Kong — which also means we shouldn't pretend a taxi is always the cheapest option.

The tipping point is roughly "three people" or "large suitcases"
Since the Airport Express charges per head and a taxi charges per vehicle, the tipping point usually occurs at three people travelling together or with checked luggage. If you're travelling solo and light, living right by the station, we'll directly tell you to take the Airport Express — this isn't modesty, it's that we don't want you to feel it wasn't worth it after using us once. Kwai Fong, Kwai Hing and Lai King have no Airport Express
Note: the Airport Express doesn't stop at Kwai Fong, Kwai Hing or Lai King stations. Taking the rail from Kwai Fong to the airport requires first going into the urban area to Kowloon Station to change to the Airport Express, or via Nam Cheong to change to the Tung Chung Line then to Tsing Yi to change again — either way dragging luggage through changes. So Kwai Fong, Kwai Hing and Lai King really have only two reasonable choices: the airport bus or a taxi.
Tsing Yi and Kwai Fong's Traffic Risks Are Completely Different
One is an "island access point" issue, the other is a "container truck" issue
Tsing Yi: concentrated island access points, but the route to the airport is actually the least affected
Tsing Yi is an island connected to the outside mainly via the Tsing Yi Bridge, Tsing Yi North Bridge and the Cheung Tsing Tunnel. If one of these has an incident or maintenance work, traffic on the island concentrates onto the remaining routes.
But the key point is: heading to the airport doesn't need these outbound routes at all — driving straight from West Tsing Yi onto the Lantau Link. So Tsing Yi to the airport is actually least affected by the island's access-point issues; conversely, Tsing Yi to Kowloon or Hong Kong Island does have to face the bridge and tunnel bottlenecks.
Kwai Fong: heavy traffic from the Kwai Chung Container Terminal
Kwai Fong and Kwai Hing are right next to the Kwai Chung Container Terminal, with heavy container-truck traffic on Kwai Chung Road, Texaco Road and the Kwai Chung Road entrance during the morning rush. This is also why we use a fixed fare in Kwai Fong — the meter keeps running in traffic (the statutory fare is calculated per 200 metres or per minute of waiting time), but a fixed fare won't cost you extra for waiting 15 minutes behind container trucks. Tsing Yi is the only residential area in Hong Kong with an Airport Express station, with a journey of about 12 minutes from Tsing Yi station to the airport, at an adult single fare of around seventy dollars (subject to MTR announcements). Honestly: for 1–2 people with only carry-on luggage living near Tsing Yi station, the Airport Express costs less; but for 3 or more people, checked luggage, living further away like Cheung On Estate or Waterfront Estate, or when the rail hasn't started running yet in the early hours, a door-to-door taxi is usually better value and faster, since a taxi charges per vehicle rather than per head.
No. The Airport Express doesn't stop at Kwai Fong, Kwai Hing or Lai King stations. Taking the rail from Kwai Fong to the airport requires first going into the urban area to Kowloon Station to change to the Airport Express, or via Nam Cheong to change to the Tung Chung Line then to Tsing Yi to change again — either way dragging luggage through changes. So the Kwai Fong area really has only two reasonable choices: the airport bus or a taxi.
Tsing Yi is an island connected to the outside via the Tsing Yi Bridge, Tsing Yi North Bridge and the Cheung Tsing Tunnel; if one has an incident, traffic concentrates. But heading to the airport doesn't need these outbound routes — driving straight from West Tsing Yi onto the Lantau Link, so it's actually least affected. The Kwai Fong direction should watch for heavy container-truck traffic around the Kwai Chung Container Terminal, with Kwai Chung Road and the Kwai Chung Road entrance more congested during peak hours.
The closest is Tung Chung (also on Lantau, journey time approx. 5–15 minutes). Tsing Yi is one of the closest urban residential areas, about 13 km from the airport with a journey time of 12–20 minutes, closer than Kwai Fong (about 19 km) and Tsuen Wan (about 23 km). This is one reason Tsing Yi has long been a popular residence for airport and aviation industry staff.

The Airport Express has limited service hours, so a red-eye flight in the early hours or a very early morning flight often can't rely on the rail — a taxi is the only door-to-door option at that time. Note that during peak hours (generally 5:00–8:00am) the fixed fare on some routes may be slightly higher, which we'll state clearly in the quote.
Provide your flight number and we'll arrange the pickup based on the actual landing time, agreeing on a meeting point in the T1 or T2 arrivals hall. Estates like Serenity Place, Waterfront Estate and Ocean Pointe have many entrances, so you can specify the block or gate in advance. The industry commonly charges an extra airport car park fee for pickups (typically around $16), which we'll clearly state whether it's included in the quote.

AsiaWorld-Expo is right next to the airport, with a journey time from Tsing Yi similar to going to the airport — it's hard to hail a taxi roadside after an event ends, so booking ahead is recommended; Disneyland is reached directly via the Lantau Link; the HZMB Hong Kong Port is on an artificial island northeast of the airport.
Tsing Yi and Kwai Fong are served mainly by urban red taxis (flag fall $29). Red taxis can travel anywhere in Hong Kong (except Tung Chung Road and South Lantau Road) with no problem reaching the airport or Tung Chung. Depending on availability, a New Territories green taxi (flag fall $25.5) may also be arranged. We'll state the vehicle type and fare in the quote. Yes, the fixed fare already includes the luggage fee, with no piece limit. Taxis generally carry 4–5 passengers (depending on registered seating); split into more than one vehicle if you exceed that.
