Tseung Kwan O Used to Be the Most Inconvenient — Two New Roads Changed That
The TKO-Lam Tin Tunnel + Route 6 have dramatically shrunk the distance between East and West Kowloon
1. TKO-Lam Tin Tunnel: another exit, and it's toll-free
In the past, Tseung Kwan O relied mainly on the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel to reach Kwun Tong, so any congestion there affected the whole district. With the TKO-Lam Tin Tunnel open, Tseung Kwan O gained a direct westward connection to major East Kowloon roads, and this tunnel is also on the Transport Department's "toll-free government road tunnels" list — meaning it won't add a cent to your fare.
2. Route 6 and the Central Kowloon Route: East to West Kowloon without the detour
The Central Kowloon Route (Yau Ma Tei section)/Central Kowloon Highway opened on 21 December 2025, spanning about 4.7 km with three separated lanes in each direction, bypassing congested Central Kowloon. The government has stated that once Route 6 is fully open, the drive from Yau Ma Tei to Tseung Kwan O town centre can be cut from about 65 minutes to about 12 minutes.
For Tseung Kwan O residents, the most painful stretch on the way to the airport has never been Kwai Chung Road — it's crossing from East to West Kowloon. These two new roads address exactly that bottleneck.
Route 6 comprises the TKO-Lam Tin Tunnel, the T2 Main Channel, Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel and the Central Kowloon Route, and the government has stated it will be fully open in 2026. Actual opening arrangements, section sequencing and tolls are subject to the latest government announcements; current Transport Department information lists the Central Kowloon Route (Yau Ma Tei section tunnel) among the toll-free government road tunnels.
Result: the longest airport route in Hong Kong, yet still zero tunnel fees
Tseung Kwan O to the airport is about 45 km, one of the longest airport routes among Hong Kong's major residential areas. But because it doesn't cross the harbour and every tunnel along the way is toll-free, your fare structure really has only one component: distance. Compare that to Hong Kong Island departures, which incur an extra $25 tunnel fee + $25 return fee totalling $50 — Tseung Kwan O has none of that. LOHAS Park: Many Phases, Many Entrances — Location Details Matter Most
One of Hong Kong's largest residential developments, with long internal roads — just saying "LOHAS Park" isn't enough
LOHAS Park comprises multiple phases, each with its own entrance, lobby and clubhouse, and quite long internal roads. If you only say "LOHAS Park," the driver may have to loop around the internal roads several times to find you — which is worst for passengers rushing for an early flight.
Please provide these three details when booking
- Phase or estate name — e.g. Wings, LP6, Le Prive, La Marina, Novo Land, MONTEREY, LP10, etc.
- Block number and lobby — since a single phase can have multiple blocks and lobbies, please specify clearly.
- Which gate — facing towards LOHAS Park station, or another internal exit; with luggage, choose the drop-off point closest to your lobby.

The driver will choose to leave East Kowloon via the TKO-Lam Tin Tunnel or the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel depending on traffic conditions, then cross to West Kowloon via the Kai Tak Tunnel or the Central Kowloon Route as appropriate. Neither choice affects your fare — because every relevant tunnel is toll-free, and the fixed fare already locks in the total.
Tseung Kwan O's traffic risk: exit bottlenecks + the urban crossing section
Tseung Kwan O is a new town with concentrated access routes. Between 7:00–9:00am and 5:00–7:00pm, traffic on the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel, Kwun Tong Road and East Kowloon is heavy; if an incident occurs in the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel, exit pressure for the entire district concentrates onto the TKO-Lam Tin Tunnel.
Additionally, "crossing East Kowloon to West Kowloon" remains the least stable part of the journey (significantly improved since the Central Kowloon Route opened). So the buffer time from Tseung Kwan O should be another 10–15 minutes more than other areas.
Tseung Kwan O to Airport: Taxi vs Airport Bus vs MTR
Tseung Kwan O's rail option is one of the most roundabout in Hong Kong
Taking the rail from Tseung Kwan O to the airport, you'd first need to cross the harbour to Hong Kong Island via the Tseung Kwan O Line (e.g. changing at North Point or Quarry Bay), then change to the Airport Express at Hong Kong Station; or go via the Kwun Tong Line into the urban area with multiple changes. Either way requires more than two changes with all your luggage the whole way. So Tseung Kwan O residents really have only two reasonable choices: the airport bus (such as route A29) or a taxi.

No. The Airport Express doesn't pass through Tseung Kwan O. By rail you'd need to first cross the harbour to Hong Kong Island via the Tseung Kwan O Line (e.g. changing at North Point or Quarry Bay), then change to the Airport Express at Hong Kong Station, or go via the Kwun Tong Line into the urban area with multiple changes — either way requiring more than two changes with all your luggage. The only two reasonable choices are the airport bus (such as route A29, schedule and fares subject to KMB/Long Win announcements) or a taxi.
Yes, we dispatch vehicles 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with no night surcharge. Tseung Kwan O is a new town where rail and bus services are sparse late at night and early morning, and hailing a taxi roadside is difficult around LOHAS Park, the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate, Tsui Lam and Hong Sing Garden — book ahead and keep the plate number. Note that during peak hours (generally 5:00–8:00am) the fixed fare on some routes may be slightly higher, which we'll state clearly in the quote.
The journey takes 45–60 minutes, longer than most areas, so allow more buffer. For an international long-haul flight, arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure, meaning boarding in Tseung Kwan O town centre about 4.25 hours before departure, with LOHAS Park adding another 15 minutes. Between 7:00–9:00am and 5:00–7:00pm, the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel, Kwun Tong Road and East Kowloon get congested, so allow an extra 25–35 minutes.

Because Tseung Kwan O is a long-distance route with a high meter reading and a fixed route, but passes through several urban sections where waiting-time variance is high. The statutory fare is calculated per 200 metres or per minute of waiting time, so the meter keeps running in traffic. A fixed fare puts all the risk of congestion, detours and luggage fees on us rather than the passenger. By contrast, Tuen Mun and Yuen Long have both the Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Highway and Tai Lam Tunnel routes with a fare difference of over $100, so meter 85% off is fairer there.

Yes, this can be arranged. The HZMB Hong Kong Port is in the same direction as the airport; Shenzhen Bay, Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang and Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai are reached via the New Territories direction. As Tseung Kwan O is relatively far from all checkpoints, book ahead and allow time for border crossing — see Cross-Border to Shenzhen.
