The Central Kowloon Route (Yau Ma Tei section) officially opened on 21 December 2025, running approx. 4.7 km with dual three-lane carriageways. The Transport and Logistics Bureau states that, after opening, the rush-hour journey time from Yau Ma Tei to Kowloon Bay has been cut from approx. 30 minutes to approx. 5 minutes. For Jordan, eastern Tsim Sha Tsui and the Chungking Mansions area, joining the West Kowloon Highway via this new route is noticeably smoother than the old Nathan Road/Argyle Street path, saving a few extra minutes during rush hour. Transport Department data currently lists the Yau Ma Tei section tunnel as a toll-free government road tunnel; actual toll arrangements are subject to the latest Transport Department announcements. No harbour crossing on the standard route
Tsim Sha Tsui, Jordan and Hong Kong Airport are all on the road network north of Victoria Harbour, so the standard route doesn't go through the Cross-Harbour Tunnel, Eastern Harbour Crossing or Western Harbour Crossing, meaning there's no harbour tunnel fee and no return-crossing surcharge.
