* The above is a reference price only — the actual amount depends on pickup location, vehicle type, time, route and availability at the time. Pak Shek Kok and Science Park are in southern Tai Po District, closer to Sha Tin and the Route 8 entrance, and are usually cheaper than Tai Po town centre; Ting Kok, Tai Mei Tuk and rural village houses are further away and must be quoted by the actual house number.

Which Route Is Usually Taken from Tai Po to the Airport?

Usually via Route 8, avoiding urban Kowloon

  • Tai Po
  • Tolo Highway
  • Sha Tin
  • Cheung Shan / Sha Tin Heights / Tai Wai Tunnels $8
  • Nam Wan Tunnel $0
  • Stonecutters Bridge
  • Ting Kau Tunnel $0
  • Tsing Ma Control Area waived
  • Kap Shui Mun / Airport tunnel $0
  • Airport T1/T2

The common route heads south on Tolo Highway via Sha Tin onto Route 8. The Sha Tin-side group on Route 8 comprises Cheung Shan Tunnel, Sha Tin Heights Tunnel and Tai Wai Tunnel, with a current combined toll of $8; the route then continues via Nam Wan Tunnel and Stonecutters Bridge toward Tsing Yi, and Nam Wan Tunnel is toll-free.

From Tsing Yi, the route continues via North Lantau Highway to the airport. Along the way, Ting Kau Tunnel, Kap Shui Mun and the airport tunnel are all toll-free, and Tsing Ma Control Area tolls have been waived.

No harbour crossing needed from Tai Po to the airport

Tai Po and the airport are both on the road network north of Victoria Harbour, so the route does not pass through the Cross-Harbour Tunnel, Eastern Harbour Crossing or Western Harbour Crossing — there is no $25 harbour tunnel toll plus $25 return toll. The main extra cost on the common route is only the Tsing Sha Control Area toll section, which our fixed fare already includes.

The driver may take a different route depending on traffic

If there's an incident on Tolo Highway, Route 8 or Stonecutters Bridge, the driver may reroute via Lion Rock Tunnel, Tate's Cairn Tunnel, or another main road. Different routes may involve different tolls and distances.

With a confirmed fixed fare, the total won't increase if the driver takes a different reasonable route due to traffic; with an 85% metered discount, the fare follows the actual meter and actual tunnel toll.

Tai Po to Airport: Fixed Fare vs 85% Metered Discount

The two are actually quite close — the key is luggage and traffic

ComparisonGreen taxi statutory meterGreen taxi 85% offFixed fare
Tai Po town centre, about 46 km Pure meter about $349 About $297 $300-$320
Route 8 toll section Add $8 Add $8 Included
Luggage fee $6 per piece $6 per piece Included, unlimited pieces
Traffic waiting Meter keeps running Discounted from the higher reading No extra charge
Route change Per actual meter and toll Per actual meter and toll A reasonable detour doesn't change the total
Best suited to Spontaneous roadside hail Early-morning / smooth traffic / light luggage Morning/evening peak, more luggage, tight flight time

Tai Po town centre example

  • Green taxi pure distance meter: about $349
  • 85% metered discount: about $297
  • Plus Route 8 toll $8: about $305
  • Plus two pieces of luggage $12: about $317
  • Fixed fare: about $300-$320, already including the route toll and luggage

Conclusion: the two amounts are close. In the early morning with smooth traffic and light luggage, 85% off may be slightly lower; during morning/evening peak, with several pieces of luggage, or when you want to lock in the price entirely, a fixed fare is more stable.

* The above is estimated from the statutory fare table and a driving distance of about 46 km. The green taxi's lower metered tier begins around the 8th km, at $1.4 per 200m thereafter, i.e. about $7 per km: $82.5 + (46 − 8) × $7 ≈ $348.5. This does not account for actual waiting time or other possible route tolls. Verify for yourself with the Standard Meter Calculator and 85% Fare Calculator.

Tai Po to Airport: Taxi vs Airport Bus vs MTR

No direct Airport Express from Tai Po — rail requires multiple transfers

ModeTransfersLuggageTime reliabilityBest suited to
Booked fixed-fare taxi Door-to-door, zero transfers Luggage fee included High — vehicle confirmed before departure Groups, more luggage, early flights, rural areas
85% metered taxi Door-to-door, zero transfers $6 per piece, subject to quote arrangement Affected by traffic and waiting on the meter Smooth traffic, light luggage
Airport bus Depends on route and stop Carry it yourself Affected by frequency and stops along the way Solo travellers, light luggage, plenty of time
MTR / Airport Express No direct connection, multiple transfers needed Dragging luggage across platforms the whole way Reliable frequency but a roundabout overall trip Solo, light luggage, near a station

The difference is biggest in rural Tai Po

If you live near Tai Po Market or Tai Wo station, public transport is still fairly convenient; but if the pickup is Hong Lok Yuen, Lam Tsuen, Fung Yuen, Ting Kok, Tai Mei Tuk or a village house, you first need to solve the "getting from home to the station" leg. For groups or with luggage, a door-to-door taxi directly eliminates the connection, waiting and carrying.

How to Book an Airport Taxi from Tai Po?

  1. Provide the full pickup location. For an estate, give the block and gate; for a village house, give the village name, house number and pin; for Science Park, specify the building or park entrance.
  2. Provide flight and luggage details. Including departure time, flight departure time, passenger count, luggage pieces, and whether there's a stroller, golf bag or wheelchair.
  3. Compare the two fare types. We'll explain the fixed fare and 85% metered discount by route, and state whether the Route 8 toll and luggage fee are included.
  4. Receive the plate number and meeting point. Check the plate before boarding; if you need electronic payment or a receipt, please mention this when booking.

  • Check the plate first. Confirm the plate before boarding to avoid getting into the wrong car or an unlicensed vehicle.
  • Provide the full Tai Po address. Clearly state the estate, village house, Science Park building or rural entrance.
  • Car park costs. An airport pickup may involve car park or designated pickup zone costs, which we'll state clearly at quote time — never sprung on you after boarding.

Late-night return to rural Tai Po — booking matters more than hailing on the spot

For a late-night trip from the airport back to Hong Lok Yuen, Lam Tsuen, Ting Kok or Tai Mei Tuk, drivers need to factor in the empty return distance to town after drop-off, so on-demand app matching isn't always easy. Booking in advance lets you confirm the driver, plate and total price beforehand, rather than trying multiple platforms after landing.

Tai Po Airport Taxi FAQ

Fixed fare reference: Pak Shek Kok and Science Park $280-$300; Tai Po Market, Tai Po Centre and Kwong Fuk $300-$320; Tai Wo, Fu Heng and Fu Shin $310-$330; Hong Lok Yuen and Lam Tsuen $320-$350; Ting Kok and Tai Mei Tuk $350-$390. Already includes the common Route 8 tunnel toll, luggage fee and booking arrangement. Final price confirmed at the specific pickup address and booking.

Generally about 45-65 minutes. Pak Shek Kok and Science Park about 40-55 minutes; Tai Po town centre about 45-60 minutes; Hong Lok Yuen and Lam Tsuen about 50-70 minutes; Ting Kok and Tai Mei Tuk about 60-80 minutes. Add an extra 20-30 minutes during morning/evening peak hours.

Usually via Tolo Highway through Sha Tin onto Route 8, through Cheung Shan Tunnel, Sha Tin Heights Tunnel and Tai Wai Tunnel, then via Nam Wan Tunnel, Stonecutters Bridge, Tsing Yi and North Lantau Highway to the airport. Cheung Shan, Sha Tin Heights and Tai Wai Tunnels form the Tsing Sha Control Area toll section, currently $8; Nam Wan Tunnel is free, and Tsing Ma Control Area tolls have been waived. The actual route is decided by the driver based on traffic.

No. Tai Po and the airport are both on the road network north of Victoria Harbour, and the route doesn't pass through the Cross-Harbour Tunnel, Eastern Harbour Crossing or Western Harbour Crossing, so there's no $25 harbour tunnel toll or $25 return fee. The common Route 8 toll section is currently $8, included in the fixed fare; Nam Wan, Ting Kau, Kap Shui Mun and airport tunnels are toll-free, and Tsing Ma Control Area tolls have been waived.

Both should be compared by vehicle type, distance, luggage and traffic. For about 46 km on a green taxi from Tai Po town centre, a pure metered estimate is about $349, or about $297 at 85% off, plus $8 for Route 8 and the luggage fee; the fixed fare is about $300-$320 — the two are close. In smooth early-morning traffic with light luggage, 85% off may be lower; during peak hours, with more luggage, or when you want to lock in the total, a fixed fare is more stable.

Tai Po is within the New Territories taxi service area, so a green taxi can usually be arranged; green taxis can lawfully travel to the airport and Tung Chung, with a flag-fall of $25.5, lower than the red taxi's $29. If green taxi supply is tight at the time, a red taxi may be arranged instead. We'll state the vehicle type and corresponding fare at quote time. See Types of Hong Kong Taxis for the full comparison.

Generally yes. Pak Shek Kok and Science Park are in southern Tai Po District, closer to Sha Tin and the Route 8 entrance, so the driving distance to the airport is usually shorter, giving a fixed fare of about $280-$300, versus about $300-$320 for Tai Po town centre. The actual price still depends on the specific building, park entrance and time.

Yes. Hong Lok Yuen, Lam Tsuen, along Lam Kam Road, Fung Yuen, Ting Kok, Shuen Wan and Tai Mei Tuk can all be arranged. These areas have scattered house numbers and more village roads — please provide the house number, village name, estate gate or pin when booking for accurate pricing and driver arrangement.

No. Travelling by MTR from Tai Po requires taking the East Rail Line into town, then changing to other lines and the Airport Express, or taking an airport bus instead — transferring with a lot of luggage is inconvenient. Solo travellers with light luggage and no time pressure can consider public transport; for two or more people, checked luggage, an early-morning flight, or living in a rural area, a door-to-door taxi is more practical. See Airport Transport Comparison.

Yes, we dispatch 24 hours a day, every day of the year, with no night surcharge. Rural Tai Po, Hong Lok Yuen, Lam Tsuen, Ting Kok and Tai Mei Tuk are harder to hail roadside in the early morning — book an hour ahead or a day ahead, and keep the plate number we provide. See Midnight Airport Taxi.

Provide your flight number — we'll arrange based on the actual landing time, and agree on a T1 or T2 arrivals hall meeting point. Please provide your specific Tai Po estate, village name or building entrance. An airport pickup may involve car park or designated pickup zone costs, which we'll clearly state whether included at quote time — never sprung on you after you get out.

Yes. The fixed fare includes the luggage fee with unlimited pieces; but the boot has real space limits — generally two to three large suitcases plus some hand luggage. For four or more large pieces, strollers, golf bags or oversized items, please tell us when booking so we can arrange a suitable vehicle or an extra one. See Groups and Large Luggage.

Yes. Transfers from Tai Po can be booked to Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint, Lok Ma Chau / Huanggang Checkpoint, Heung Yuen Wai Checkpoint and HZMB Hong Kong Port. Tai Po is closer to the eastern New Territories, so the route toward Heung Yuen Wai and Lok Ma Chau is fairly direct; Shenzhen Bay and HZMB are further. Book cross-border trips ahead and allow time for clearance.

We accept cash, Octopus, Visa/Mastercard, PayMe, FPS and Alipay, though not every taxi has the same electronic payment equipment. If you need electronic payment, please mention it when booking so we can arrange a supporting vehicle. If you need a receipt for reimbursement, please tell the driver when boarding. See Taxi Payment Methods Guide.
