85% off: This tool shows a reference for "meter reading × 0.85"; whether luggage, tunnels and other surcharges are included must be confirmed against the service quote.
Fixed fare: If you need a fixed total for airport, checkpoint, hotel or attraction transfers, WhatsApp us the pickup location, destination, time, passenger count and luggage pieces.
How to Use the Fare Calculator: Estimate Any Hong Kong Taxi Fare in Three Steps
- Step 1: Choose the vehicle type. Choose red taxi for Kowloon, Hong Kong Island and most cross-district trips; green taxi is commonly used in northwest New Territories areas like Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai; blue taxi can be used around Lantau, Tung Chung, the airport and Disneyland. If unsure, see Differences Between Red, Green and Blue Taxis.
- Step 2: Enter the driving distance. Use a map tool to check the "driving route" distance in kilometres, not the straight-line distance. Distance is the main component of the metered fare.
- Step 3: Add extra items. Such as boot luggage, pets, booking service, harbour tunnel and return fees, Tai Lam Tunnel. The result will list every item in full.
The calculator is best used for "comparing," not replacing the meter
You can use it for three things: estimating the lower bound of a roadside-hailed meter fare, checking whether an "85% off" claim is genuine, and comparing whether a fixed fare offers value. For long airport routes especially, calculate the estimated metered amount first, then compare it with an actual fixed fare from us — that's the most transparent approach.
Calculation Rules: Fare Differences Between Red, Green and Blue Taxis
This calculator uses the 2026 applicable statutory two-stage rate rules, effective from 14 July 2024
| Fare Item | 🔴 Urban Red Taxi | 🟢 NT Green Taxi | 🔵 Lantau Blue Taxi |
|---|---|---|---|
| First 2 km (flag fall) | $29.0 | $25.5 | $24.0 |
| High rate stage per 200m or per minute waiting |
$2.1 (below $102.5) | $1.9 (below $82.5) | $1.9 (below $195) |
| Low rate stage per 200m or per minute waiting |
$1.4 (after $102.5) | $1.4 (after $82.5) | $1.6 (after $195) |
| Low-rate threshold approx. at | 9th km | 8th km | 20th km |
| Service area | Territory-wide (excluding Tung Chung Road and South Lantau Road) | Designated New Territories areas, the airport, Tung Chung | Lantau, Chek Lap Kok, HZMB checkpoint |
"Per minute waiting" and "per 200m" are alternative triggering conditions: during slow traffic, the meter automatically switches between time and distance, rather than adding both for the same minute. This calculator adds manually entered "full stop / waiting time" separately, so the actual meter during slow-moving traffic may differ from the estimate. See the full statutory standard at 2026 Taxi Fare Standard.
